Carter Morris

Carter began fly fishing at the young age of five on the ponds, creeks, and rivers near his home in Augusta, GA. He learned from the back of the boat as he paddled his father for hours until it was his time to take the rod and the front seat. He sums up the lesson his father taught him quite simply: "Thanks Dad, I learned the right way."

Carter is a retired Navy Captain, a retired high school teacher and coach, a semi-retired entrepreneur, and a former riverboat pilot. He also has a life-long love of training bird dogs and bird hunting. But he has found his most fulfilling calling yet as a full-time fly fishing guide for most of the last decade.

Says Carter of turning his love for fly fishing into a professional venture, "I worked hard every day for thirty years, but I haven't worked a day in the last seven years since I bought a house in Big Canoe and started guiding. I love to dry fly fish for wild trout and guide groups with my son Hunter, who convinced me some years back of how much I would enjoy guiding. I try to fish the Toccoa, the Amicolola, the Soque, the Chattahoochee and all the other streams in the Blue Ridge and Helen areas on my days off so that when I guide someone there, I will know how to put them on fish. I absolutely love guiding and you will feel that passion if we get the chance to spend a day on the river together."
